With the growth of world trade in not only crude and oil products, but also in other fluids like potable water, LPG/LNG, sand or slurries, many more Marine Terminal/Single Point Mooring (or Single Buoy Mooring) applications are expected worldwide. In areas where natural harbours are scarce or too expensive, SPMs will be the preferred method to transfer fluids from tankers to shore and vice versa.
SPM systems provide an ideal solution for congested harbours, areas with shallow coastlines and in isolated areas. Fluid inventories are transferred via flowlines between the shore and the SPM system.
The upgrading of quaysides and jetties for larger product carriers is often limited with respect to space for mooring, maneuvering and water depth. Extending harbour facilities into deeper water through SPM application often provides the flexible, cost effective solution needed.
