| Tanker Conversion |
 |
| Bluewater’s fast track experience shows that an FPSO for North Sea duty can be operational within 20-24 months from contract award. This results in improved rates of return for the operator and encourages the development of fields previously considered to be unprofitable. |

Bluewater converts existing tankers and completes new builds for FPSO and FSO service. Design, construction, commissioning and installation are managed by Bluewater personnel and, when necessary, with specialised subcontractors.
For floating storage and/or production units, the conversion of an existing and available tanker can be a preferred alternative. |
|
|
The choice for a conversion is often determined by specific project needs. Tanker Conversion requires various complex structural adjustments to be made to the ship’s hull and structure. Bluewater’s engineers perform model tests and Finite Element calculations to prepare for all structural and naval aspects of a tanker conversion.
For short project durations, the potential cost savings of a converted tanker makes the conversion attractive. In sites with a benign environment, aging vessels will still have sufficient strength for a long operational life. |

Glas Dowr Tanker Conversion |

Bluewater’s depth of experience in conversions comprises:
- Conversion of 3 Panamax size tankers to early production FPSOs (Acqua Blu, Lan Shui and Ayer Biru)
- A ULCC to an offshore floating port and storage facility (FSO Covenas)
- A VLCC to offshore crude oil storage FSO (Phillips Enterprise)
- Conversion of a Suezmax tanker to a floating fuel oil bunker station (MT Tuma)
- Conversion of a Panamax size tanker to a gas-condensate storage tanker (Bongkot FSO)
- Conversion of an Aframax size tanker to an FPSO (Uisge Gorm)
- Conversion of a New Build Tanker to an FPSO (Glas Dowr)
The conversion of a tanker comprises a "Repair and Life-time Extension" (R&LE) and modifications for the new duties (Conversion). The approach to the R&LE depends on the specific project
requirements.
For projects that require a large production capacity and expecting a long operational life, Bluewater retains the steel structures but renews all the utility systems, technical installations and living quarters’ interiors.
For each project, Bluewater will develop a strategy, which meets both the client and project expectations. |
