Turret & Turntable Buoys
Bluewater supplies both Turntable Buoys and Turret Buoys to clients worldwide.
The Turntable buoy is a conventional buoy type offered by several companies. The Turret buoy is an advanced design and is exclusively offered by Bluewater.

Turret Buoy:The Bluewater turret buoy eliminates the disadvantages of the turntable buoy. The buoy body with deckhouse rotates around a central turret fixed to the seabed. The deckhouse protects the main bearing and all mechanical and electrical equipment and offers a safe place to work during operations and maintenance.

From experience with this buoy design, Bluewater is confident in offering an extended guarantee on the main bearing for the design life time of the turret buoy system.

  • Round or Square Shape
  • Round Shape Only
  • Deckhouse & Boatlanding
  • No Deckhouse
  • Safe Access & Operation
  • Obstructed Deck
  • Easy Maintenance
  • Low Impact Capacity
  • Key Cost Considerations for the Turret Buoy:
    • No initial price difference
    • Lower maintenance costs
    • Lower operational costs
    • Higher up-time
These key cost considerations add up to a substantial savings over the lifetime of the buoy.
    Key Design Advantages:
    • The entire buoy body weathervanes along with the moored tanker, eliminating any rotating parts on the buoy itself, thus creating a safer environment for personnel working on board the buoy.
    • The design allows a deckhouse to be fitted over the main bearing and swivel arrangements. This provides shelter and protection to critical components such as the main bearing, swivel and instrumentation against direct sunlight, green-water slamming and rain; therefore reducing maintenance costs.
    • The Turret design has a lower centre of gravity, which improves the stability and the dynamic behaviour of the system.
    • Due to the absence of a turntable and more central position of anchor legs, the buoy system and its mooring system are well protected against accidental tanker collisions.
    • The excellent protection of the main bearing prevents wear and tear of bearing, while on average, the turntable buoys need replacement of main bearings after 10 years. Since 1980, no Bluewater Turret Buoy to date has required replacement of the main bearing.
