Technology Manager – Hoofddorp


For our Technology Management Department in Hoofddorp, we are looking for a Technology Manager with proven experience in the upstream offshore oil and gas industry. Our Technology Management Department is responsible for the development of Floating Production
Technology, Single Point Mooring (SPM) Technology and for product and concept development for tenders and technical studies.


Bluewater is a leading provider of innovative Single Point Mooring systems (SPM) and operator of Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSO). Since its foundation in 1978, Bluewater has built a technological lead specialising in design, development, lease and operation of tanker-based production and storage systems, and has become a leading provider of innovative Single Point Mooring systems.

Bluewater currently owns and operates a number of Floating Production Storage and Offloading Systems (FPSOs): the Glas Dowr, the Aoka Mizu, the Bleo Holm, the Hæwene Brim and Munin.


In this position, you will be responsible for the technical input to tenders and the management of studies. The studies can involve front end conceptual engineering, the initiation of the new product developments, as well as the development of existing proprietary knowledge. The technical concepts include floating production technology and/or single point mooring technology. Together with the Business Development Manager and Tender Manager, you will prepare the technical proposal strategy. Furthermore, you will:
– prepare study proposals; objectives, deliverables, interfaces, study execution budget and schedules and obtain approval for same.
– manage and execute assigned studies for clients and company identified business and innovative opportunities. For larger studies a Project Engineer will be assigned reporting to the Technology Manager. Engineering work can be subcontracted which you will manage. You align with the Engineering Department and Operations Support Department on the choices for the concept selection.
– verify the selected on patent infringements. You establish technical project requirements and high-level concept selections.
– approve technical proposals as part of the tender process. You participate in kick-off-, technical-, risk-, and budget meetings and tender reviews during the tender phase.
– provide input to project budget and schedule and recommend on follow-up project execution strategy.
In this position, you will report to the Department Head Technology Management. You will be working from our office in Hoofddorp and you are willing to travel on a regular basis (onshore, offshore, construction sites or with clients).


We are looking for:
A forward thinking and creative Engineering Manager with a strong client orientation and planning and organisational skills. Furthermore:
– you have a Bachelor/Master of Science in Naval, Marine, Mechanical or Process Engineering
– minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Floating Production and/or Complex SPM industry in Engineering (management) positions
– experience in concept and product development
– you are fluent in English, both written and verbal
– you are creative and committed to turn opportunities into results, and you solve bottlenecks and change approach if things are not working
– you take ownership, are reliable in delivering results and thinks and acts across boundaries of responsibilities
