Bluewater’s Haewene Brim FPSO resumed production on the Pierce Field

Pierce Production Company Ltd, an operating company within the Bluewater Group, is happy to announce that it restarted the production on the Pierce Field in the UK Central North Sea.
The Haewene Brim FPSO was taken off the field in December 2021 to undergo an extensive repair & life-time extension and modification program to make it suitable for gas export.

Last year the vessel spent 6 months in the Aibel Shipyard in Haugesund, Norway to make it ready for the next development phase of the Pierce Field. Oil production on the Pierce Field started in 1999 and since that day produced gas has been reinjected into the reservoir. The Haewene Brim FPSO will now produce these gas reserves. Peak production is expected to reach 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, which is more than twice the production prior to the redevelopment, with more gas being produced than oil. The gas will be exported through a newly installed pipeline which connects to the SEGAL pipeline system. As before the oil will then be transported by shuttle tanker.

Bluewater’s CEO and President, Hugo Heerema, said “the successful completion of this project in adverse times demonstrates the project capability of Bluewater, Shell and its contractors. The project has been successful because parties were very much aligned and followed a “one team” approach. The effort by all parties has been commendable. We are happy that we have been able to deliver this key project in a time that locally produced oil and gas is much needed.”

The redevelopment of the field is consistent with UK Government’s North Sea Transition Deal.
